“At KAIST, Back to the Basics, Heading for Innovation”
The core vision of KAIST's College of Engineering is value creation. The value here refers to creating the kind of value that improves life, stimulates industry, and changes the world. Our research is not aimed at writing good papers but rather at affecting lives of people, brightening society, and advancing the world. Great publications will then follow naturally. Such research will not only drive Korea's industry but also lead to creative and innovative results expanding the frontiers of engineering and technology on a global scale. KAIST College of Engineering's education similarly aims in this direction, nurturing engineers who actively participate or take a leading role in their communities, empathizing with communal life, and contributing to the development of the communities they belong to.
As of October 2023, KAIST's College of Engineering comprises 3 schools, 13 departements and 3 graduate programs with 382 full-time faculty members and 8,158 students actively engaged. The annual research expenditure, as of 2023, exceeds 560 billion won or 430 million USD. Accounting for 60% of KAIST's overall resources in terms of personnel and research funding, the College is a leading force in the country, demonstrating world-class competitiveness. Beyond its size, the College has played a pivotal role in the development of Korea's industry in key strategic fields such as semiconductors, materials, artificial intelligence, robotics, renewable energy, bioengineering, aerospace, autonomous manufacturing, intelligent transportation, and information security. Given current domestic challenges, KAIST's College of Engineering contemplates its role as a leader in science and technology innovation to enhance national productivity, address aging issues, and improve national defense efficiency.
KAIST actively breaks down boundaries and walls through vibrant exchanges and communication with the global community. These efforts widen the horizons of our research and education, propelling KAIST towards becoming a true global village. KAIST College of Engineering, driven by a passion for excellence, is a place where racial and cultural diversity is respected, and inclusivity towards differences is guaranteed. Additionally, it promises to sustain growth as the foremost research and education institution, attracting talents globally through fair and transparent evaluation and recognition systems.
